Nothing is new under the sun
  • Ecclesiastes 1:2-11
  • Psalm 90:3-6, 12-14, 17
  • Luke 9:7-9

The phrase “nothing is new under the sun” may sound cynical at first, but it carries a deeper and more positive meaning. In our fast-changing technological world, we often feel that new things are constantly emerging. “New” is a word frequently promoted through advertising and media. Yet the deeper experiences of human life continue to repeat themselves across generations. We may understand them more clearly today, but life itself, with all its beauty and fragility, has not changed since the time of the Teacher. Jesus expresses a similar truth when he reminds us that we do not know the day or the hour when our life will end. No one knows when that moment will come. How am I living at this moment? Am I spending my days seeking and finding God, or am I chasing things that I cannot ultimately keep? Or am I so united with the Lord that, whenever he calls, I will be ready to respond with joy and a desire for perfect communion with him?

PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to keep your commandments. Amen.
