Promise of abundant life through Jesus
  • Acts 11:1-18
  • Psalm 42:2-3; 43:3-4
  • John 10:1-10

The compassionate, loving and caring nature of Jesus and who we are in relation to Jesus are depicted in the metaphor of the shepherd and the sheep. The Pharisees were supposed to be shepherds of Israel who would care, protect and nourish the people but instead they were guarding their power and authority. Jesus explains his role as the true shepherd. The consoling and comforting words of Jesus assure us that he will be with us even in the most difficult challenges we face and guide us to a safe harbour. The desire of Jesus to bring “other sheep” too under him as one flock and one shepherd begins to take place. The gentiles are beginning to believe in Jesus. In their lives transformation was noticeable as the power of the Holy Spirit was working through them. The Psalm speaks of the joy of those who experience this intimacy with the Lord. Their hunger and thirst is to be in union with the Lord. That should be the purpose of our lives too.

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for drawing me closer to you, through the love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
