Do we believe that God can help us?
  • James 3:13-18
  • Psalm 18:8-10, 15
  • Mark 9:14-29

“If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” We see this cry from a heartbroken father desperate for the healing of his son. How many times in our life do we display this same lack of faith, maybe it is that illness that has plagued our lives for many years, maybe it is that situation in our workplace or the relationship with our loved one that seems to be too broken to be repaired. We too resign ourselves to live our lives with these problems. We too tell the Lord “if you can help me” we beg the Lord for relief, with no real belief that our prayer in this instance will be answered. At the Lord Jesus’ gentle admonishing “everything is possible for him who believes”, the father answers with the truth of his heart: “I do believe; help me to overcome my unbelief!”. This is the prayer we too can make in those instances when we feel our faith faltering. Faith is a gift from God. And our God supplies our needs bountifully when we turn to him and ask. Let us believe that our Father will continue to bless us, guide us and increase our faith.

Prayer: Abba Father, help me in the areas of my life where I have not surrendered to you. I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief. Amen.
