If only you had faith
  • Deuteronomy 6: 4-13
  • Psalm 18:2-4, 47-51
  • Matthew 17: 14-20

In the Gospel proclamation, the disciples are unable to heal the epilectic boy which caused Jesus to call them faithless. Jesus admonishes them and tells them that with faith they could even order mountians and trees to move. But the question is how do we generate faith. Yes faith is a gift but we can be woefully unaware of it. Faith can be inculcated into one’s lifestyle when it is fed to the person from childhood. This is what the reading from Dueteronomy speaks about.

It instructs parents and guard- ians to never forget the origin of their success. If they possess anything, it has come from the mercy and goodness of God. While human effort and wisdom has worked it out, it is the hand of God that has been upon it all to make things happen. The word reminds us to be thankful and grateful to God for what he has done. We are told to share our faith with our children and write the word on various surfaces. While they lie down, why they are awake while we impart other information, we must build their faith.

Prayer: Abba Father, we pray for the grace to pass on the faith by way of word
