We are called to serve others
  • 1 Corinthians 6:1-11
  • Psalm 149:1-6, 9
  • Luke 6:12-19

Today’s Gospel proclamation gives us a summary of the powerful ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He proclaims the good news, heals the sick and exorcises people possessed by demons, demonstrating supernatural power flowing from him. Jesus selected the twelve apostles to continue this divine mission. But, the secret to it all, is revealed in the first few verses of today’s Gospel proclamation. We find the Lord Jesus spending the night in prayer, in communion with His father. In the same way, as Christians, we have been selected and called by name, to carry out the mission of Jesus to the ends of the earth. But, our efforts would be in vain if our deeds are not anointed by divine power. Therefore, the Lord Jesus invites us today to spend time in His presence so that He may shower upon us His mercy and love. Let us wait upon him to empower us with His Holy Spirit who will direct and guide us to be instruments in service to the Lord. Our service towards our brothers and sisters would then be pleasing in God’s sight.

Prayer: Abba Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may do your will and serve you. Amen.
