The more we forgive the more we are forgiven
  • Ezekiel 12:1-12
  • Psalm 78:56-59,61-62
  • Matthew 18:21--19:1

Today’s Gospel proclamation talks about forgiveness. When Peter asked Jesus how many times should one forgive another, Jesus said seventy times seven which means that we need to forgive every time. To forgive one who has hurt us terribly is not easy yet Jesus asks us to do it infinite number of times. Our God is the God of Love. Jesus came to the earth because of the unconditional love he had for us. The love that he had for us enabled him to forgive all those who persecuted him, even while dying on the cross. That is why we are Christians today. Forgiving is not easy but we are called to do it. God does not ask us to do anything which we cannot do. Forgiveness comes from the Lord. The more we hold on to Jesus the more we get rooted in his love, which enables us to forgive those who hurt us. If we are unable to forgive someone, let us turn to Jesus and ask him for the strength and grace to forgive. The more we forgive the more we are forgiven and our relationship with Jesus gets stronger. So are we ready to forgive?

Prayer: Abba Father, help me to forgive those who have hurt me just like you have forgiven me. Amen.
