Becoming a Holy Family in Christ
  • Sirach 3:2-6,12-14
  • Psalm 128:1-5
  • Matthew 2:13-15,19-23

Joseph was one of Jacob’s twelve sons. He was sold into slavery in Egypt. During that period he looked up to God and not his pitiable condition. The Lord spoke to him through dreams so that he would be instrumental in saving his family and the people of Israel. The Lord too goes into exile and anguish as did His ancestors. Persecution begins with His birth and follows Him till His death. Joseph His earthly Father too interpreted dreams, thus taking Mary and his Son to Egypt in the first instance and subsequently to Israel and Nazareth. All this was done to save and protect his family. Jesus would probably have been about two years old when He was brought back to Nazareth. In our own families don’t we go into sort of exilic and post exilic periods? Times of despair and eventual happiness? The crises within the family and from outside may bring us into a state of helplessness. But realizing that the Lord is in our struggle we can rest assured that He will give strength and stand by us till victory is assured.

Prayer: Abba Father, you know the struggles and challenges I face in my relationships. I believe that you would see me through it all. Amen.
