Let us become witnesses
  • 1 John 2:22-28
  • Psalm 98:1-4
  • John 1:19-28

When the religious leaders asked John the Baptist who he was, he said who he is not. It is not about me, I am not the Christ. John clearly understood who he was — under Christ, he was a witness pointing to Christ. Jesus is the Messiah. So John answers their question, since this is who they are thinking he might be, not by explaining who he is, but by telling them who he is not and in doing so he points to the Messiah. John is a witness. It is not about him, it is about Jesus. Our testimonies are not about us. It is about Jesus. Many of us have remarkable testimonies about how we came to Christ and what the Lord has done in our lives. But the most important part of our witness is Jesus. We need to tell people about Jesus; about who he is; about what he has accomplished for us by his death and resurrection. Whether or not we have a remarkable story to tell about is not what’s important. Whether or not we will focus our life and witness on Jesus is what’s important. Become witnesses of God’s love in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Abba Father, I come to you and ask for your guidance. May your love be stronger than my doubt. May you protect us from all evil. Amen.
