Responding to God’s call
  • 1 Kings 11:29-32; 12:19
  • Psalm 81:10-15
  • Mark 7:31-37

People approached Jesus for various reasons. Some sought physical healing, others wanted to find fault with him and some approached him to fulfil their worldly needs and wants. Out of these categories, to which do we belong? If we are in relationship with Jesus for worldly needs and wants, our relationship is limited to this world. Our relationship with Jesus must lead towards eternal life. We are created in the likeness and image of God to live with him in eternity. Today’s Gospel proclamation talks about the healing of a deaf man. We are called to examine ourselves regarding our response towards the call of Jesus. If we are not able to respond to his call, we also experience deafness as disciples. We have to examine ourselves and see if we are connected with Jesus. The Blessed Mother is a role model in responding to Jesus’ call. Her response was unique; it was childlike faith: “I am the handmaid of the Lord”. Let us learn to respond to God’s call as the Blessed Mother did.

PRAYER: Abba Father, may I be obedient and respond to your voice. Amen.
