Lead, kindly light, amid the encircling gloom
  • Acts 11:21-26; 12:1-3
  • Psalm 98:1-6
  • Matthew 5:13-16

We meet a great Biblical character in the first reading: Barnabas who was an ardent disciple of Jesus. In the first reading, Barnabas is introduced as a person who was filled with the Holy Spirit. We could take the example of Barnabas and be filled with the Holy Spirit and faith. We are called by God for different missions. Therefore, we should not compare ourselves with each other. What I am called to do is not what another person is called to do. Hence it is not proper for us to judge others. Our main goal in life should be to be moved and motivated by the love of God when we deal with ourselves and others. Today’s Gospel proclamation states who we are and what our mission is: we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. When we have the essence within us we could share it with others. We should remain in the light to fulfill the mission. The light within us could light up our surroundings. We need to have light within us to scatter the darkness around us.

PRAYER: Abba Father, let me be full of your light. Amen.
