Total dependance on the Lord
  • 1 Kings 2:1-4, 10-12
  • 1 Chronicles 29:10-12
  • Mark 6:7-13

David’s parting instruction to his son was: ‘Follow the ways of the Lord at all times’, as it will lead to blessings in life. It is no mystery that our God, exalted over all, has a beautiful plan and a purpose for our lives and his ways are nothing but perfect. When it comes to following God’s ways, it is not always simple or straightforward. We hear Jesus’ instructions to his disciples who are being sent out into unknown places: they were to take nothing but a walking stick. No change of clothes, no food or drink to sustain them for the journey, nothing but the assurance of God’s providence and protection to see them through and we hear of no resistance from the disciples. It may be that they were confident of the power of God over their lives or perhaps like many of us, they were willing to place their trust in God even when they could not make sense of things. The outcome of their mission was a great success. Can we go with confidence even when situations seem bleak and uncertain?

PRAYER: Abba Father, may we place our trust in you and not on our understanding. Amen.
