How do we change our perspectives.
  • Sirach 2:1-13
  • Psalm 37: 3-4,18-19,27-28,39-40
  • Mark 9:30-37

Often our conversations revolve around our achievements, abilities, goodness, the greatness of our ancestors and the achievements of our children. Most people are focused on themselves. In today’s Gospel proclamation we hear the 12 disciples discussing, who the greatest is. But Jesus says “if we wish to be first then we need to be the last and the servant of all.” We may find it difficult to understand what Jesus is saying. How do we become the last, to be the first? It is not having a low self image. We need to use our talents and gifts to the fullest capacity to the glory of God. In this journey the Lord will make our high places low, which may be a painful process. In the day to day events of our lives, if we allow God to act, and say ‘Lord let your will be done in this situation’, then he will bring about that humility, through the working of the Holy Spirit. Accepting our life situations without complaining or putting the blame on others should be our way of life. The Holy Spirit will guide us and make us to be the first by being the last.

Prayer: Abba Father, anoint us with your Holy Spirit so that our inner eyes may be open to accept the values of the Kingdom. Amen.
