Selfless love pleases God
  • Jonah 1:1--2:1-2,11
  • Jonah 2:3-5,8
  • Luke 10:25-37

God’s plan for our lives is often not what we wish. God is love and he is compassionate towards his children and wants to fulfil our hearts’ desires. “Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire” (Ps 37:4). We could have ideas and desires of doing good for others with selfish motives, which are not pleasing to God. Prophet Jonah’s story brings to our mind the love that God had for the people of Nineveh. Jonah had other plans but God’s plan was materialised. We could never run away from God. The best and the safest place for us to live is in a surrendered internal dis- position. We could relax because through a surrendered internal disposition God’s will materialises in our lives and that fulfilment becomes our heart’s desire. The Gospel proclamation tells us God’s plan; God is love and his will is that we love others. We often discern the will of God. His will is that selfless love should motivate our actions. Let us love because God is love and we are children of this loving God.

Prayer: Abba Father, purify and heal my heart to love others as you love me Amen.
