Blame it on ourselves
  • 1 Kings 10:1-10
  • Psalm 36:5-6, 30-31, 39-40
  • Mark 7:14-23

Whenever anything goes wrong, we look for the underlying reason. Often we look to identify and blame an external factor, as the reason for the problem. While we point fingers around we seldom point fingers at ourselves. But the Word tells us today that, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him or her.” It has been lying within and expresses itself at our weakest moment. Knowing that weakness and sin lie within us, we must every day open ourselves to the saving power of God. This is to protect ourselves from darkness and sin so that they may not get the better of us. As we choose to abandon ourselves to God’s love and mercy, He begins to minister to us. Our sinfulness and ungratefulness are overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and transformed into heavenly wisdom similar to what the Lord Jesus had. True wisdom makes us aware of our deep sinfulness and gives us the grace to respond to God’s love and mercy.

Prayer: Abba Father, we open our hearts to receive your perfect wisdom and humility. Amen.
