A sword shall pierce your own soul.
  • 1 John 2:3-11
  • Psalm 96:1-6
  • Luke 2:22-35

A few friends have given birth recently, I have seen the love in their eyes for their beloved children. Many of them have subsequently had their babies baptized. Today’s Gospel proclamation is about the Presentation of Jesus in the temple. With great love and commitment the blessed Mother bore Jesus in her womb. Having held such a great responsibility she was rightfully given to us as our Mother, as Jesus was dying on the Cross. As Simeon prophesied: Mary’s heart was pierced as she witnessed the suffering of Jesus. Even today she is saddened by those who reject her love and maternal protection. Let us try to grow in appreciation for the role of motherhood. Not just our mothers but also our heavenly Mother Mary. Let us seek to imitate her example of total dependence on God. Even when she received a difficult message, she held on to the Lord and pondered on it in her heart. She did not run away from challenges. Let us be like Mary.

Prayer: Abba Father, may I hold onto you, even when I am wounded by others. Amen.
