Tuesday July 25
Feast of Saint James, Apostle
The road less travelled
  • 2 Corinthians 4:7-15
  • Psalm 126:1-6
  • Matthew 20:20-28

We often prefer to travel on the easier road in life, the road which is triumphant, the road which gives us quick results, the road which brings recognition and acceptance. But what about the road less travelled? The road of suffering. This is the cup the Lord Jesus is talking about in today’s readings. The mother of Zebedee’s sons, longed for her sons to be accepted, recognized, and receive the best seats in the Kingdom of heaven. But little did she know that in the kingdom of God, people are exalted by God when they are humble before others; when they take the road less travelled. This path is only possible to those who choose to live, walk and talk like the Lord Jesus did. When we choose to say “yes” to him, it comes at a price, for it is the road less travelled. But this road, brings us joy and fulfilment at the depths. It helps us experience true peace in our hearts even when there is turmoil around us. Our eternal reward is when we meet our King and are crowned in his glory.

Prayer: Abba Father, fill me with the Holy Spirit and give me the grace to walk
on the path you have chosen for me. Amen.
