Seek first the Kingdom of God
  • 2 Corinthians 4:7-15
  • Psalm 126:1-6
  • Matthew 20:20-28

The desire to rise above those around us, and the relentless pursuit of worldly rewards and perks are not things we are immune to in our human capacity. As flawed beings, it is easy for us to be tempted by the behaviours of those around us, falling prey to the urge to give in to these provocations. We often find ourselves drawn to competition, power struggles, and the allure of material success. However, in today’s Gospel reading, we are called to be different. We are invited to choose a path that resists these temptations and to remember the greater importance of seeking heavenly authority and power rather than worldly ones. We are attracted to love, power, influence, and recognition. It is almost instinctive for us to crave authority and control. Yet, we are reminded to renounce this inclination. Instead of seeking to elevate ourselves for person- al gain, we are called to a life of humility, one that prioritizes God’s purpose over our desires for power.

PRAYER: Abba Father, strengthen us to face the struggles of this world. Amen.
