Today’s readings show contrasting responses to God’s expectations and the consequences of disbelief. Cain and Abel present offerings to God. Abel’s sacrifice, given in faith and obedience, is accepted, while Cain’s is rejected, exposing his disobedience and lack of sincere faith. Despite God’s warning and call to repentance, Cain chose disobedience, resulting in his separation from God’s favor. In the Gospel reading, the Pharisees demand a sign from Jesus, revealing their hardened hearts and lack of faith. Despite witnessing numerous miracles, they refuse to believe, seeking to test Jesus rather than trust him. Jesus’ response reflects his sorrow over their spiritual blindness. He denies their request, since true faith doesn’t rely on signs but trusts in God’s revealed truth and presence. Both readings show the importance of faith and obedience to God. Let us examine our hearts, trust in God’s ways, and respond faithfully rather than demand proof or act out of jealousy and pride.
PRAYER: Abba Father, grant us obedient and faithful hearts. Amen.
