In the first reading St Paul gives thanks to God for the unshakeable faith of the Thessalonians. Amidst their suffering, their hearts were open to hear the word of God, to receive it and to be guided by the power of the Holy Spirit. They were filled joy, changed their ways and became imitators of Christ. When I am faced with a crisis, how often do I try to go around seeking answers rather than spending time dwelling on the word of God? I know the Word of God is my answer but often I get drifted away with the distractions of this world. The Lord is inviting us to hunger and thirst for his word. To have a heart that is open to receive his word, be transformed by his word and be witnesses in the world we live in. Our mission is to spread his word and lead others to Jesus. Let us yearn to read the word of God, and draw power from it. The Gospel reading says that the more we lead people to the presence of Jesus the more we please his heart.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may I have a heart that is open to listen to your word and to share your word with others. Amen.
