In the worldly sense, a king is known by his power, military strength and capabilities. The more he demonstrates them, the more he is recognised. In today’s Gospel reading, we are shown what true power is. The one who is able to draw all people (John 12:32) is the one who holds all power. Jesus demonstrated that power not by his might but by laying himself down. Christ’s death, seemed futile to the onlookers, because it was his hour of pain, shame, and weakness. Jesus endured it all so that through his hour of suffering we may become one with God. Since Jesus endured pain, shame, suffering and death, so can I. I can abandon myself to God’s perfect will in life’s situations. His death ended in glory through his resurrection. I too will see God’s Glory in and through my suffering, as I hold onto him in faith. As we exalt the cross, we recognise that Jesus is the King of Kings. While kingdoms collapse, and governments change, Christ reigns forever.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may I never shun away from drawing power from the holy cross of Christ. Amen.
