God not only prepares the heart of Cyrus. He also prepares the hearts of the people he has chosen to be part of the first wave of returning exiles. Even though they are not part of the returnees, “all their neighbours” contribute generously to the cause. Returning and rebuilding is difficult. Are we too tired or complacent or comfortable to become pioneers once again as God leads us? Jesus gives us key insights into the life of faith. If our faith is a lit lamp, then we must let it do what comes naturally to it. It should be allowed to shine, not be hidden. Why? So that people may see the light of faith alive in us and it might not only attract them, but also help light their way ahead. We cannot keep our faith secret, turned in on ourselves – faith is meant to be shared. Even in our secular world we can be a light to others, simply by living our lives faithfully, with joy. Jesus shows us how faith increases, even if we are starting out with just a little of it. “For anyone who has will be given more.”
PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for the faith you have given me. Give me the grace to share it with others. Amen.
