Perseverance in Faith
  • Exodus 17:8-13
  • Psalm 121:1-8
  • 2 Timothy 3:14-4:2
  • Luke 18:1-8

The Israelites’ victory depended on Moses keeping his hands raised. As he grows weary, Aaron and Hur support him, and through their shared perseverance, the Israelites prevail. This image reminds us that faith is not only personal but supported by community and persistence. St Paul urges us to remain rooted in Scripture, which equips us for every good work. Paul charges Timothy to preach the Word “in season and out of season,” showing that faithfulness involves persistence, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. Scripture is our guide, and strength in every trial. Jesus tells the parable of the persistent widow who, through relentless petitioning, is granted justice by an unjust judge. Jesus highlights the importance of continual prayer and unwavering faith. If persistence can sway an unjust judge, how much more will a just and loving God respond to his people? Let us lift one another up in prayer, grounding ourselves in Scripture, and never losing heart.

PRAYER: Abba Father, give us strength to persevere in faith. Help us lean on your Word. Amen.
