In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus is teaching us how we are to live as his disciples. He is especially concerned that we live in such a way, that we are ready for his return. As his disciples, we should be good shepherds of his sheep. As his people we should live in mutual service. We are to care for one another. We should not be spending our lives for ourselves alone, looking out for number one as it were, but always pour out ourselves for the good and betterment of others. We are to constantly look out and care for the family of God as we serve our brothers and sisters. Let us seek to do what is best for others. Living and walking in the Spirit leads to a life of total freedom. Let us live lives of self-renunciation where we seek to serve the best interests of others, while the world tempts us to do the opposite. We are to love not just our neighbours, our family members, our community and church members, but everyone including our enemies.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may our lives be a witness of your love. Amen.
