Discipleship demands total commitment
  • Romans 13:8-10
  • Psalm 112:1-2,4-5,9
  • Luke 14:25-33

In the first reading, St. Paul reminds us that love fulfills the commandments. Debt to God is never fully paid, yet love is the guiding principle that shapes every action. Love does not harm; it builds up, protects, and unites. When we live in authentic love, we fulfill God’s law without counting obligations or measuring duty. Love becomes both our motivation and our standard. The Gospel reading presents a challenging message: discipleship demands total commitment. Jesus calls us to prioritize him above family, comfort, and possessions. He asks for a radical reorientation of our hearts, even when it conflicts with our natural attachments. Following Christ is not a half-hearted endeavor; it requires counting the cost, surrendering personal ambitions, and placing God at the center of our lives. Love and total commitment are inseparable. True love for God transforms our relationships, priorities, and choices.

PRAYER: Abba Father, may we surrender our will to you and build our lives on the foundation of faith. Amen.
