In the first reading, we see the courageous stand of Mattathias and his family in the face of oppression. When pressured to abandon the covenant and conform to foreign customs, Mattathias boldly declares his fidelity to God. His choice inspires others to join him, retreating to the wilderness rather than betray their faith. Loyalty to God often requires sacrifice, courage, and even separation from worldly comforts. True discipleship is not compromise, but steadfastness rooted in love for the Lord. In the Gospel reading, Jesus weeps over Jerusalem. His tears reveal God’s compassion for his people, even as they reject the path of peace. The city’s unwillingness to recognize “the time of the visitation” brings sorrow, because it blinds them to the mercy and salvation standing before them. Jesus calls us to conversion: to open our eyes, to seek peace, and to embrace the wisdom of God that leads to life. Let us remain faithful, and receive Christ’s peace with open hearts.
PRAYER: Abba Father, give us courage to be loyal. Amen.
