Let us reflect on the responses of Saul and Jesus, when faced with recognition and praise. Though King Saul was credited for his battles, he could not tolerate David receiving greater acclaim. He allowed jealousy to take root, leading him to plot David’s murder. His focus was on his abilities, making him performance-driven rather than God-centric. In contrast, David entrusted his victories to the Lord. Jonathan became an instrument of peace, working to restore trust in Saul towards David. On the other hand, Jesus, remained hands-on and focused on his mission rather than seeking human adulation. Jesus’ works were rooted in love as he glorified the Father. Jesus warns that evil thoughts and feelings arise from within our hearts to defile us (Mark 7:22-23, Proverbs 4:23). The control is thus within us in the choices we make. Let us examine our hearts in our daily responses as Christians. Are we performance-driven or God-centric in our choices?
PRAYER: Abba Father, teach me to choose your love over thoughts that defile me. Amen.
