David is praised not because he was flawless, but because he loved God with his whole being. His victories, songs, and leadership all sprang from a heart centered on the Lord. Even when he stumbled, David returned to God in humility. Sirach reminds us that true greatness is measured not by worldly success but by faithfulness, repentance, and praise. In the Gospel, the martyrdom of John the Baptist exposes the tragic consequences of fear, pride, and moral compromise. Herod knew that John was righteous, yet he silenced his conscience to preserve his reputation. His weakness contrasts sharply with John’s strength. John dies because he refuses to betray the truth: a witness that anticipates the courage of the martyrs throughout history. St. Paul Miki and the Japanese martyrs stand in this same lineage of steadfastness. Even as they faced torture and execution, they proclaimed Christ with serenity and love. May the Lord transform our hearts and illuminate our minds.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may I yield a harvest through perseverance. Amen.
