Am I a temple of God?
  • Exodus 40: 16-21, 34-38
  • Psalm 84: 3-6, 8, 11
  • Matthew 13: 47-53

In today’s first reading, we see the obedience of Moses, who did what the Lord had commanded, to the finest detail. However, after he had completed the building of the Tabernacle, the most important element was missing: the glory of God. In response to Moses’s obedience, and as a seal of approval over the Israelites, the glory of God filled the tabernacle. When people looked at the tabernacle, it was undeniable that God was in the house. When people look at my life, could they say the same? Or do they only see my works and my striving? Is my life merely a tent of my own construction or is it a tabernacle of the Lord? We see God’s glory fill the temple only after the Israelites had laid down lesser idols in recognition of the sovereignty of the One God. The Lord reveals himself to the obedient, undivided, repentant and hungry heart. Would I want to be found as an empty tent, or a dwelling place of God? Am I hungry for his presence, to become a worthy vessel for his glory?

PRAYER: Abba Father, make my life a temple of your presence. Help me to seek you with an undivided heart. Amen.
