Be attentive to the Word of God
  • Romans 7:18-25 |
  • Psalm 119:66, 68, 76, 77, 93, 94
  • Luke 12:54-59

As I was reflecting on the first reading, I was reminded of a daily struggle. Many times I think, say or do things which I should not say or do, but my nature which is quick to speak up, and quick to react makes me want to act fast without thinking of the consequences. We engage in self-pity, holding on to our opinions and focusing on the impact they have on our lives rather than showing concern or care to others. The Gospel reading speaks of this judgmental nature and how our ears are tuned and our eyes focused on what is happening around us. Jesus expresses his anger and frustration when he asks “Why do you not judge for yourself what is right?”. Jesus wants us to be attentive to the many signs in our lives. Some signs we receive in prayer. Other signs can come from people or from struggles. How can we be attentive to these signs? By reading the Word and taking our daily nourishment from it. Then we could face each day in the strength of the Lord.

PRAYER: Abba Father, I pray for the grace to live by your word and to be nourished by your word. Amen.
