The first reading teaches us the correct attitude with which we should serve God. The allegory of the trees reveal the attitude of service. The noble trees that are mentioned (Olive, Fig and the Vine) refused the position offered to them to continue in the humble purpose that they had been created for. Often we sidetrack from our original purpose and act selfishly like Abimelech, to come to the limelight. But what is required from us is to have the noble service attitude as God’s children. In the Gospel reading Jesus says that every worker in God’s vineyard is given an equal share. There again we are taught the attitude of the servers. We are called by God to serve him; the difference is the time that we are called. God is generous to everyone and treats everyone equally; immaterial of the season that we are serving in his vineyard. We should be cheerful to see the new comers doing better in the service than what we have done.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may my heart be pure and steadfast. Amen.
