Call to Repentance
  • Exodus 2:1-15
  • Psalm 69: 3, 14, 30-31, 33-34
  • Matthew 11: 20-24

In the first reading, we see God’s providence at work in the life of Moses. Though he was born into danger, God protected him, using Pharaoh’s own household to raise the one who would later deliver Israel. Despite his privileged position, Moses felt the weight of his people’s suffering, leading him to act rashly in defense of justice. He had to confront his nature and its consequences. We too, maybe caught up in our sinful nature, our weaknesses, or addictions that seem to overwhelm and take control of us. In the Gospel reading, Jesus rebukes the cities that witnessed his miracles but remained unrepentant. On this memorial of St. Bonaventure, we are reminded that true wisdom is found in humility and trust in God. St. Bonaventure, a great theologian and mystic, taught that intellect alone is not enough; we must open our hearts to God’s grace. Let us trust in God’s timing and respond to his call with faith and repentance.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, I need you. Holy Spirit be my Comforter. Holy Spirit, be my healer. Amen.
