The Lord speaks harshly to elitist groups who think they are better than the rest. They like to appear to the outside world, even to family and friends as better than the rest. The clarion call in today’s readings however, says that one who wishes to serve the Lord should do so in humility: considering the other more important than oneself. Due to our fallen nature this could be quite difficult. Pride, power and prestige get in the way. God in his mercy sends prophets to challenge our attitude and way of life. Such prophets could be our spouse, children or even those who unsettle us. This would be an opportunity to experience an inner liberation, a transformation. If our nature rejects such opportunities, we will be the losers. The Word of God would work in us who dare to believe (1 Thess 2:13). The Word is living and active. Our way of life would change to a life worthy of God, who calls us to share his own glory and kingdom. (1 Thess 2:12).
PRAYER: Abba Father, may I learn from your Son to be meek and humble, so that I may learn the secrets of your Kingdom. Amen.
