Defend the Cause of the Innocent
  • Wisdom 6:1-11
  • Psalm 82:3-4,6-7
  • Luke 17:11-19

If we look at the world today, we see many leaders behaving destructively. Yet as followers of Christ, we are called to strive for justice in society and to help create a safe, peaceful environment where all can live with dignity. The warning is severe for those who govern nations, for they steer the direction of their people by the laws they support and enforce. We may at times feel disheartened, but we can be assured of this truth: nothing escapes God. He is above all, and he sees all. This is our hope. Wherever we are placed in positions of authority: whether great or small; let us never forget that, as children of God, we are expected to show no partiality and to defend the cause of the innocent. Let us walk in the laws God has given for our welfare and strive to be people of integrity. In the end, when we stand before our Lord face to face, may we be confident of hearing his words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

PRAYER: Abba Father, let the words of my mouth, and the thoughts of my heart be acceptable before you. Amen.
