Today’s readings challenge us to reflect on how we live in relation to God and others. The prophet Amos warns against complacency and indulgence, showing how luxury can blind us to the suffering around us. The wealthy in Zion lived in comfort, but their disregard for justice led to their downfall. Similarly, in the Gospel reading, the rich man ignored Lazarus at his gate, failing to see that true wealth is found in mercy and compassion. His choices in life had eternal consequences. In contrast, St. Paul urges us to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Instead of being attached to wealth and status, we are called to “fight the good fight of faith” and keep our eyes on the eternal kingdom. These readings remind us that what we do with our blessings matters. Do we hoard them for ourselves, or do we use them to serve God and others? True life is found in living for Christ and seeking his kingdom above all.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help me live with an eternal perspective, loving you and serving others. Amen.
