We live in a world of transactions: ‘I’ll help you if you help me’. Yet, Christ calls us to step away from that mindset: to invite someone to our table, knowing they have nothing to give in return. That is where the beauty of true love shines. When we give without expectation, we reflect the heart of God, who showers us with breath, strength, and blessings we could never repay. In our daily lives, this might mean lending a listening ear to someone who cannot help us, or offering kindness to those society overlooks. It could be showing patience with a colleague who tests our limits, or giving generously to someone who does not know us. Such acts strip away pride and self-interest, opening us to God’s transforming grace. St. Paul reminds us that everything we have is from God, and everything returns to him. Let us live with open hands; ready to bless, ready to serve, ready to love. That kind of living does not just change others; it changes us.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help me love freely, give generously, and live humbly. Amen.
