The Sanhedrin was astonished at the fearlessness and self confidence of Peter and John, as they were fishermen without formal education and without training in any rabbinic school. Faith does not depend on learning and educational qualifications. Having a degree in Theology, does not guarantee faith in God. Peter and John’s source of strength and confidence was Jesus alone. God calls the unqualified and qualifies them to do his work. Faith in the risen Christ came rather slowly to the disciples. It took a few occasions and apparitions to convince them that the Lord had really risen from death. Faith has its ups and downs. Prayer has its good times and tough times. We should check ourselves often to see where stubbornness and hardness of heart in our lives are preventing us from giving ourselves to Jesus. He knows our weakness and failures, and is willing to forgive us, to help and strengthen us and trust us to do his work in the world.
PRAYER: Abba Father, empower me to do your will. Amen.
