God walks with us
  • Numbers 12:1-13
  • Psalm 51:3-7,12-13
  • Matthew 14:22-36

In today’s Gospel reading, we see Jesus walking on water and the disciples being terrified unable to comprehend this power. Peter walks on water with faith, but when he begins to doubt, he starts to sink. Jesus’ compassion and love are there for us, amidst the storms and crises of our lives, when the things that we cherish seems to be destroyed. When we shift our focus from Jesus to the problem we are in; we would sink, as we listen to the sounds of this world. But Jesus says to us “Take courage it is I. Do not be afraid” (Mt 14:27). How often have we fought against such circumstances? We are often adamant and stubborn. As the Psalmist says, God allows us to follow our own devices, and we end up in more confusion and chaos, until we come to our senses and realize that his power was always present in our lives every step of the way. But our lack of faith obstructs that realization. We need to step back and allow God to work in our lives.

PRAYER: Abba Father, help us to live a life surrendered to your will. Amen
