Today’s readings remind us that though kingdoms rise and fall, the reign of God is eternal and unshakeable. Daniel was troubled by visions of beasts representing earthly powers. Yet in the midst of fear and confusion comes the assurance: the Most High reigns forever, and His holy ones will inherit the kingdom. No empire, no power, no persecution can outlast the sovereignty of God. This vision invites us not to be overwhelmed by the chaos of the world, but to stand firm in the knowledge that God is Lord of history. In the Gospel reading, Jesus warns us: “Be on guard; do not let your hearts be weighed down.” He urges us to stay awake, and to pray constantly. The danger is not only what happens outside us: wars, fears, troubles; but what happens within us: hearts dulled by distractions, souls weakened by compromise. Vigilance and prayer are our weapons. The kingdom of God is already among us, and we are called to live as heirs of that everlasting reign.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we be vigilant. Amen.
