In the first reading, David’s response to the deaths of Saul and Jonathan calls us to remember the good and to place our trust in God even in times of sorrow. Jonathan, David’s closest friend and supporter, embodied the strength of true friendship, and David’s grief reveals the depth of love and loyalty they shared. David’s lament also teaches us the value of remaining loyal and honoring others, even within imperfect relationships. It challenges us to focus on the good in people and to recognize the role they play in our lives. His choice to honor Saul, despite Saul’s failings, reminds us that forgiveness is possible and that we can choose to see beyond someone’s mistakes. In the Gospel, we are shown the cost of answering God’s call. Jesus’ family misunderstands him, unable to grasp his mission. They view his actions as unusual, emphasizing how even those closest to us may not understand our choices. Loneliness and misunderstandings can accompany the path of doing God’s will.
PRAYER: Abba Father, in moments of sorrow, help us to lean on you for strength and comfort. Amen.
