In the first reading, David’s response to the deaths of Saul and Jonathan calls us to remember the good and to place our trust in God even in times of sorrow. David’s lament also teaches us the value of remaining loyal and honoring others, even within imperfect relationships. His choice to honor Saul, despite Saul’s failings, reminds us that forgiveness is possible and that we can choose to see beyond someone’s mistakes. In the Gospel, we are shown the cost of answering God’s call. Jesus’ family misunderstands him, unable to grasp his mission. They view his actions as unusual, emphasizing how even those closest to us may not understand our choices. Loneliness and misunderstandings can accompany the path of doing God’s will.
