Today’s Gospel reading gives an example of a true disciple of God. We may have heard many sermons and teachings on who a disciple is. The Blessed Mother lives up to the mark of a true disciple. Who is a disciple? One who listens to the voice of God and acts in obedience. If I look back at the last 25 years of my life and the trials that I had to face, I only saw failure because I did not approach my trials as the Blessed Mother did. But as I learnt the secret to hear, ponder and be obedient, my life changed. The stories of the saints became real: about the agony and ecstasy of following Christ. My faith grew stronger as I continued to hear and obey: the most impossible of situations started to turn around. We are called to not dwell in our battles but to go out and be disciples who minister to others who maybe going through similar circumstances. Let us follow the example of the Blessed Mother who visited Elizabeth, to care for her in her hour of need.
