Peace in Christ
  • Isaiah 40:25-31
  • Psalm 103:1-4,8,10
  • Matthew 11:28-30

Peace is more than the absence of conflicts. The Hebrew word ‘Shalom’ means wholeness, safety, prosperity, and completeness: wellbeing of spirit, soul, and body. When we say “peace be with you,” we are declaring God’s fullness: health, restoration, and blessing over one another. This peace was purchased at a great price. Isaiah 53:5 says, “He bore the punishment that makes us whole.” On the cross, Jesus bore our sins and paid in full. His sacrifice is an overpayment of grace, ensuring we stand complete in him. When Jesus declared, “It is finished,” our sins were forgiven as his blood was poured out for us. To exiles weary in Babylon, God promised freedom and restoration. This foreshadows Christ, our Good Shepherd, who gathers his flock close to his heart, seeking the one lost sheep. Through him we receive peace. True Shalom (peace) is not earned by our efforts, but received by grace. In Jesus, all God’s promises are “Yes” and “Amen” (2 Cor 1:20).

Abba Father, help us to rest and to live in wholeness. Amen.
