The Gospel speaks about an ‘eternal sin’, that will never be forgiven. Jesus was referring to the sin of blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. He said this, because people failed to recognize that it was the Holy Spirit that was at work in the life of Jesus. St. Paul reminds us that the Spirit works in different ways in different people. Let us be attentive to the many signs of the Spirit and rejoice in his love. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and you shall receive”. The more we ask and seek for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the more we will receive and enjoy the fruits of the Spirit. I remember growing up, I was not taught the importance of praying to the Holy Spirit. It was only after I attended my first Charismatic CRL prayer meeting that I learnt about this. Let us ask ourselves: are we open to the work of the Spirit in our lives? Do we allow fear and anxiety to creep in? St. Paul emphasises this fact; that we did not receive a Spirit of fear but of peace, love and self-control.
PRAYER: Abba Father, may I be open to the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. Amen.
