Quiet obedience
  • Isaiah 7:10-14
  • Psalm 24:1-6
  • Romans 1:1-7
  • Matthew 1:18-24

We draw near to the mystery of Emmanuel: God with us. In Isaiah, King Ahaz is offered a sign from God but he hesitates to trust. Yet God gives the sign: “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son.” This promise reveals that God’s faithfulness does not depend on human worthiness but flows from divine love. Saint Paul reminds us that this promise is fulfilled in Jesus, descended from David, and revealed as the Son of God. Through him, we receive grace and the call to holiness. Advent invites us to renew our “yes” to that call, to let our lives become living signs of God’s saving presence in the world. In the Gospel reading, Joseph’s quiet obedience reveals the depth of true faith. Faced with uncertainty, he listens to God’s voice in a dream and chooses trust over fear. His courage allows the divine plan to unfold through his life. Let us open our hearts to God’s will, to believe that he is with us, even in moments of confusion or doubt.

Abba Father, help me to obey your will. Amen.
