As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, the readings prompt us, to see ourselves as sheep belonging to the Lord’s flock. Often in this world there is a quest for love. Every heart longs for love, as Saint Teresa of Calcutta said, “There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread”. No human love could satisfy us fully. Parents and children, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, teachers and students; any relation-ship requires love. When we fall short of love, any relationship would suffer. Unless we immerse ourselves in the love of Jesus, we would not be able to love. Let us ask the Lord to keep us in his heart and to transform our hearts. Jesus’ sacred heart contains greater love than any other. Often we forget this, and complain about the lack of love in the world. Without God, can we ever fulfill this need for love? How slow to understand and how dull our hearts and minds have become!
PRAYER: Abba Father, may we turn to the source of true love: the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen.
