The Lord gave them Bread from Heaven
  • Exodus 16:1-5,9-15
  • Psalm 78:18-19,23-28
  • Matthew 13:1-9

How often do we recall the many blessings God has bestowed on us and praise him for them? How often do we simply skip over thanksgiving and read out lists of things we want? The Israelites grumbled for what they lacked and being thankful was the last thing on their minds. The harsh elements of the desert, and hunger must have been agonizing. Think of the many times the cares of this world have managed to take over our lives, making us forget how richly blessed we are, pushing us to sulk and complain. Every time we fall into this trap, let us choose to rejoice with the psalmist and proclaim that our God is able to see us through in all times and seasons, despite all negative circum- stances surrounding us. Let us prepare our hearts and minds so that the seed of God’s life-giving Word may find good soil in which to take root, producing a rich harvest in times of need. May his Word nourish us, strengthen us, and guide us.

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for your blessings upon our lives. Amen.
