The queen of Sheba arrives seeking to test Solomon’s wisdom, drawn by the reports of his insight and prosperity. What she discovers is not simply a clever ruler but a man whose wisdom flows from his relationship with the Lord. She recognizes that Solomon’s greatness is rooted in God’s blessing and praises the God who delights in justice and righteousness. Her encounter reminds us that genuine wisdom is not human brilliance but the fruit of a heart aligned with God. In the Gospel, Jesus deepens that understanding by shifting the focus from external impressiveness to interior truth. He teaches that purity or defilement does not come from what enters from the outside, but from what emerges from the heart. Evil thoughts, pride, envy, deceit: these distort the human person from within. Jesus calls us to a wisdom far greater than Solomon’s: the wisdom of interior freedom. When we allow the Lord to shape our interior life, our actions will reflect his goodness to the world.
Abba Father, your word is truth: consecrate us in the truth. Amen.
