The first reading tells the story of Hagar, a servant caught in the complexities of human plans that sought to fulfill God’s promises through human effort. When Sarai and Abram, struggling with impatience, choose their way to se-cure an heir, Hagar bears the consequences. Yet, in her distress, God assures her of his awareness of her suffering and his faithfulness to his promises. Hagar’s encounter reminds us that God sees us, even in our trials, and his plans will prevail despite human missteps. In the Gospel reading, Jesus contrasts lip service with genuine discipleship. Obedience to God’s will lays a strong foundation. Like a house weathering storms, a faith rooted in trust and action stands firm. Those who hear but do not act build their lives on sand, unstable and untrustworthy. Let us trust in God’s promises rather than taking matters into our hands. Listen to God’s voice and act in obedience, even when the path is unclear, because God’s plans and timing are always perfect.
PRAYER: Abba Father, help me to trust, obey, and build on a firm foundation. Amen.
