Return to the Lord with a Heart of Repentance
  • Judges 2 : 11-19
  • Psalm 106:34-37,39-40,43-44
  • Matthew 19:16-22

In today’s first reading we see the Israelites disowning God who brought them out of slavery and going behind other gods. God was displeased with their action. Even for us this can happen knowingly or unknowingly. Our worldly desires can override us where we fall back to our old ways of life. What the Israelites needed was an internal transformation to walk in obedience. Being obedient to God will be challenging. We see that episode in the Gospel when the rich young man had an encounter with Jesus. Upon living as per the ten commandments he thought he was living a perfect life to inherit eternal life. When Jesus said there was something more that he had to do, he simply could not deal with it as he was attached to his wealth. Sometimes even for us our attachments can lead us to spiritual blindness. This was the case with the young man. Time after time we need to examine our hearts. Spiritual growth happens through prayer.

PRAYER: Abba Father, give us freedom to let go of any attachments that hinder our relationship with you. Amen.
