God appointed Jonah to go to the Assyrians and deliver his message. We know how Jonah responded. He ran in the opposite direction. But after a weird, wild and wet situation, God brought Jonah back to the starting point. But Jonah did not feel the same way. He was interested in doing anything that might possibly help a nation he despised. When God calls us to be his ambassadors, we too may struggle. But God has a way of helping us with these struggles. God did not want to punish Jonah. As the Scriptures show, God taught him a wonderful lesson in the classroom of a fish’s gut. God had to remind him of what compassion tasted like. The people of Nineveh listened to Jonah and they repented. But the Scribes and Pharisees did not listen to Jesus. As a result of their unbelief, they were warned of condemnation to be given on Judgment Day. So let us come with humility and repentant hearts for the times we have been unfaithful.
Abba Father, awaken my spirit to experience the glory of your presence. Amen.
