Blessed is the one who perseveres in temptation
  • James 1:12-18
  • Psalm 94:12-15, 18-19
  • Mark 8:14-21

James reminds us that the path of discipleship is shaped by perseverance and trust. James assures us that those who remain steadfast under trial receive the “crown of life”: not as a reward for perfect strength, but for faithful endurance. He also clarifies that temptation never comes from God. God is the giver of “every good and perfect gift,” the One who draws us toward life, not sin. Our struggles often arise from desires within us that drift off course, yet God continually offers grace to reorder our hearts. In the Gospel, the disciples worry about the lack of bread, forgetting the abundance Jesus has already shown in the feeding of the crowds. Their anxiety blinds them to the deeper truth: they are with the One who multiplies what little they have. Misunderstanding comes not from lack of bread but from lack of faith. Scripture insists: God is generous, faithful, and near. Remembering his past blessings opens our hearts to receive his grace in the present.

Abba Father, when cares abound within me, may your comfort gladden my soul. Amen.
